Under Florida laws, commercial motor vehicles operated in the state must carry higher minimum liability insurance than other vehicles in order to ensure that insureds and injured third parties are adequately compensated with medical, surgical, funeral, and disability insurance benefits without regard to fault. The law requires commercial vehicles weighing between 26,000 and 35,000 pounds to carry a minimum of $50,000 per occurrence, commercial vehicles weighing 35,000 to 44,000 pounds to carry a minimum of $100,000 per occurrence, and commercial vehicles weighing more than 44,000 pounds to carry a minimum of $300,000 per occurrence.
